Tofu Kalakand

This recipe is specially for the calorie conscious and health conscious people out there. You can now relish this sweet delicacy without having to worry about putting on weight or inches this festive season. Give in to your sweet tooth and temptations. This is usually made from cottage cheese, which i am substituting with tofu inorder to make it more healthy. Happy eating!


  • 4oogms tofu – Soy cottage cheese
  • 100gms or 1 big serving spoon skimmed milk powder
  • 150gms sugar or sugar substitute
  • 1tsp cardamom powder
  • 2tbsp chopped mixed dry fruits (almond, cashew nuts, pistachio nuts etc…)


Tie the tofu in a thin cloth, squeeze and remove water from it. Remove the tofu from this cloth and place it in a slightly deep plate or vessel. Add milk powder. Add sugar or sugar substitute and half of the  cardamom powder to it. If you are using sugar then heat the mixture on gas for some time till the water component from the sugar dries down. Mix properly and set it. if you are using sugar substitute and it seems dry then do not heat or heat only if there is any water component in it. Set the surface flat properly on the dish with a flat spoon. Garnish with the remaining cardamom powder and chopped dry fruits. Cut in diagonally square pieces after it cools down.

This Kalakand is made from tofu which is Paneer / cottage cheese made from Soy milk. Soy milk has lots of protein and it is cholesterol free. It is very good for heart patients. And if instead of sugar, you use sugar substitute it will also be good for diabetic patient and fat free.
