Smokey Yam Gratin: Au Gratin’s cousin? Maybe.

Whatcha cooking this thanksgiving, me ladies? Wanna try a quick Thanksgiving side dish?

An experimental dish of course, last time during those “fasting” days I picked up some yam thinking I’ll fast too (just kidding). But what happened to this sweet looking veggie is Smokey Yam Gratin. We just can’t be normal can we? But holla! Listen to this. Have a spoonful and you’ll be absolutely pleased with your decision. We won’t tell you the taste ‘coz myth has it that yam tastes to a person, just as the person is.

Come on now, then! Tell me how it tastes to you?

Ingredients:

  • 2 small yam
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 t brown sugar
  • 1/2 c apple cider
  • 1 t  fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp butter

Procedure:

  • In a thick sauce pan, boil cider and brown sugar. Boil it to a thick consistency but not too thick.
  • In a baking pan, arrange yam, topped with onions and butter and thyme. Now drizzle some cider and repeat the process.
  • Bake for about 25-35 minutes, covered and then 5 minutes uncovered.
  • Your smokey yam Gratin is ready to be plated.
