Bikanerwala: A Feel of a Mini Rajasthani Fair

The Bikanerwala branch in Gurgaon is a great place for family get-togethers. It’s a sprawling two storied building. It’s a mini simulation of the Rajasthani village fair with camels and horses’ offering you rides near the entrance and the mehendiwala and the pan stalls to add to the feel. There are balloon sellers and art stalls (sometimes) that make it very colorful. Now that winter is setting in they have set up a stall for hot jalebis straight from the pan and another for hot flavored milk.

It’s one of the places kids will love too as there’s plenty to keep them occupied. The ground floor has a long circular counter for an endless variety of sweets and snacks. For other items like chole bature, matar kulcha (my favorites), rajma chawal etc, one needs to place an order and go and collect the items ourselves.  The pav bhaji and golgappe are a must try here though the pav bhaji cannot be compared to the Mumbai one. Sweets are a bit expensive here; I paid a whopping Rs 112 for a 400 gm of Gajak. Beverages like milk-shakes, fruit juices are available too. I tried the masala dosa once and it was strictly ok, given my exacting standards of South Indian preparation.

Overall, it feels good to visit the place. The first floor also has a party zone and a small gaming zone.

Children are sure to love the place. The bill for two usually comes to around Rs 300. Not bad!!
