Star fruit and its starry effects

Carambola or Star fruit as it is commonly known is a juicy tropical fruit grown in most parts of Southeast Asia. It has a waxy yellow skin wit translucent juicy, yellowish flesh. They are best when consumed ripe. They are yellow in an unripe state and gives shades of green when ripe. It is sweet and sour in its taste depending upon its ripeness. The sweetness is not overwhelming though. It is commonly consumed fresh or can be taken up in juice.

The fruit is an excellent antioxidant. It is a rich source of vitamin C. Apart form vitamin C it also provides with moderate amounts of fiber, carbohydrates, proteins, calorie and fats. It helps in lowering cholesterol, cures hangovers, prickly heat and sore eyes. It is also recommended to nursing mothers as it enhances the flow of milk and as a diet fruit because of it low calorie and fat content.
