Gin & Tonic

Classic Gin and Tonic

The test-of time and palette surviving kick starting potion. A highball cocktail made with gin and tonic water, gin and tonic is usually served over ice and garnished with a wedge of lemon. The suggested ratio of gin and tonic would be 1:1. Referred to as the “G and T” in the UK or “Sapphire and Tonic” for Bombay Sapphire, Gin and tonic was introduced by the army of the British East India Company primarily to prevent malaria as Tonic water contains Quinine. It was basically to subtle the taste of quinine that gin was added, which later became a rush cocktail. But of course you’ll wonder as to why then this survived inspite of its bitter taste? It is because the flavor of quinine complements the green notes of gin as much as vermouth complements gin in a classic Martini.
