My search for excellent Italian and Mexican food in Gurgaon and my craving for Chocolate found me with a few friends at Sweet Obsessions. It’s easy to miss this eatery or dismiss it as just-another-cake –shop on account of its small entrance and barely-space-to-stand layout. But this is just a misnomer for the restaurant upstairs and the superb food served.
The display on the ground floor has tantalizing truffles, cheesecakes, tarts and mousses. The upper level has around 6 tables and an LCD flashed the Film fare awards function while we were there. The waiters got the menu cards which had a list of Italian and Mexican food with a mouth-watering description of each. There was a statement in the menu card warning us that we would get addicted to the desserts there.
We started with a Butter scotch and Chocolate milk shake and crispy onion rings for starters. The milk shakes were rich and creamy and we knew what the warning meant before even ordering for desserts.
The main course had us digging into Vegetable and Chicken lasagna, Chicken Quesadillas, and Veggie taco. All of us nodded our heads in agreement and approval at each other while savoring each mouthful.
Then it was time for desserts. This is what the menu card had raved about and this is why we were there. We ordered a Death by Chocolate, big enough for 2-3 people. It came in a huge bowl made of edible chocolate complete with a chocolate lid, a big scoop of vanilla ice cream dripping with hot chocolate fudge. It was worth its name and worth dying for. While we were still working our way and stomach on the chocolate lid of the ‘Death by Chocolate’, the waiter got us Mr Fudge Brown – a gooey Chocolate cake drenched in chocolate sauce. We shamelessly scooped each and every drop of the sauce off the plate and stopped short of just polishing it with our spoons. The last dish was Ice cream mixology- a scoop of ice cream garnished with Caramel, Kit- Kat and brownie. This was served in a thick heavy marble bowl weighing almost 1 kg.
The dessert especially ‘DBC’ made our visit worthwhile. While we sat there waiting for the bill we wondered if we could get up and walk on our own without help. The bill came to around 1000 bucks, which is a little on the expensive but the magic of the dessert made us ignore it. The warning did come true though, for ‘Sweet obsessions’ has indeed left us obsessed with its desserts. .
