The first time I went to Not Just Jazz by the Bay was for a date with my then boyfriend and now husband!! So I have some special sentiments attached to the place. We’d been there for lunch. The restaurant has a lot of advantage on account of its location. It’s bang opposite the Marine Drive.
The ambience is good and the service is excellent. Thrice a week they have karaoke nights which are thronged by music enthusiasts. There’s a giant screen as well for a better view of the performance. The décor is clearly musical. The steps are shaped like a piano at the entrance and the bar is shaped like a guitar. There are posters of famous musicians all over and even on the coasters!! As soon as you are seated you are served a bread basket with pita bread and hummus with was very well made. We had been there on a weekday and saw plenty of office goers from the neighboring areas who had come for lunch. The Lunch buffet costs Rs300 plus taxes for an unlimited option of veg/non veg soups, salads & sandwiches coupled with dessert. The best part is you can choose what you want in your sandwich and while it’s being made you can pile your plate with a great range of salads. They have at least 20-25 salads in the salad bar and almost 10-12 different varieties of desserts!!
For starters you have items like Potatoes stuffed with cheddar and sour cream topping, squid fritters with garlic mayonnaise, fish fingers, basil prawns, etc. For snacks there’s stuffed mushrooms, onion rings, crispy shrimps, Cantonese pepper chicken, etc.
Other salads, curries and main course include Bruschetta salad, New Potato salad, Greek salad, Lasooni corn palak, Paneer tikka masala, Goan prawn curry, Vegetable ravioli, Veg Risotto, Pasta Arabiata, etc. For desserts we had New York Chocolate Cake and the Ebony and Ivory which is a gooey brownie served with vanilla ice and whipped cream. They also have a good choice of mocktails, beer, liquors, whiskeys and wines.
I think it’s definitely worth Rs 300 and even more. On weekends make sure you reserve your table because it gets very crowded. Very ideal for dates too!!
