Masala Moong without gravy

This is one of those foods that you should always incorporate in your weekly menu. It is one of the healthiest grains and is extremely good for giving strength and instant energy. It is a good source of proteins and I make it a point to make it atleast once a week. Given here is an easy and tasty recipe which you can eat not only as a meal but also as a healthy snack. Whats more, if you are running out of time in the morning, this takes only 10 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 200gms moong
  • ½ cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp (cumin)  jeera seeds
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp chopped coriander
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Method:
Wash and soak moong for at least 6 hours. You can also soak it overnight. In the morning, use a sieve and remove water. Take some oil in a pressure pan and heat it to give tadka. Add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds start popping , add asafoetida, red chilli powder and turmeric powder in it . Add ½ cup water. When water comes to boil, add moong to it. Add salt, stir well, cover it with the pressure pan lid and fix the valve on the steam pipe of the lid.
Allow 1 or 2 whistles and switch off the gas. Open the lid when steam sets. Add coriander powder and stir softly. Remove in serving bowl or plate and sprinkle chopped coriander on it.
This can be served in breakfast with cut tomatoes and onions or as a meal with Roti or Indian Bread.
