The ‘Cheela’ is generally made only using Besan as a main ingredient. I went on to add one more ingredient to it – ‘Dosa batter’. Dosa batter adds to the nutrition content in the dish and also brings about a twist in the taste. This dish serves well as a hot breakfast item as well as a healthy and filling evening snack for kids when they come back tired from school.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Besan
- 1 cup dosa batter
- 1 large finely chopped Onion
- 1 finely chopped Green Chilli
- 1 bunch leaves finely chopped Coriander
- 1 tsp Ajwain (optional)
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- A few curry leaves
- 1 tsp Black Pepper Powder (only if spice preferred)
- ¼ tsp Red Chilli Powder
- ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
- Water to make the right consistency for batter
- Oil for cooking
- Salt to taste
Method:
- Put all the ingredients except water in a big bowl.
- Now start adding small quantities of water to make a smooth batter, so that there should be no lumps in it.
- Add water till it comes to a dropping consistency or just like dosa batter. Now keep it aside.
- Now heat a non-stick- tawa or heavy bottom frying pan, then turn the heat on medium. Put little oil on tawa [1tsp.] & spread 1 serving spoonful of batter evenly on it.
- Cover it with lid just for a minute so that it should cook inside too. Then remove lid, put some more oil along the sides of the dosa and turn it over.
- Once done on the other side remove on to a platter, repeat the same with rest of the batter.
- Serve hot with green chutney or sambar or pickle.
