The three basic things that you will ALWAYS find in a mexican fridge, be it at a big family´s house, a weekend bungalow or a bachelor´s appartment are: wheat or corn flour tortillas, ham and cheese, which are the main ingredients for the easiest and tastiest mexican snack: quesadillas. We Mexicans have quesadillas for breakfast, lunch, dinner. We serve them to our friends when they come over, we have them when we come home after partying, we have them at night while watching TV or as a snack on a lazy Sunday. So, obviously the first thing that came to my mind when I tried Chapati for the first time and realized its similarity to wheat flour tortillas was ‘Yay! I can make a quesadilla with chapati!’
The word quesadilla comes from queso (cheese) and tortilla. A classic quesadilla is basically a tortilla folded in half with some melted cheese inside. But, you’ll often find quesadillas filled with chicken, potatoes, chilli, mushrooms, or even meat. Basically, you can get as creative as you feel like and put whatever comes to your mind inside, as long as the tortilla is folded in half, you can call it a ´Quesadilla’.
The ‘Pico de Gallo’ salsa is a sauce you can find on the table in any restaurant in Mexico and goes along with any food, so it goes perfectly well with the quesadillas.
