How to select good tomatoes

If you’ve been buying tomatoes that do not taste ‘tomatoey’ enough, here are a few tips that’ll help you buy the right stuff.

Tomatoes develop their genuine flavor only when they ripen on the plant. So try and buy locally grown tomatoes if possible.

The smell of any fruit or vegetable is a good indicator. Stronger the smell of the tomato the tastier it would be.

Select the red ones over the yellowish ones. It means that they are riper than the yellowish ones.

Good Tomatoes should be firm with a glossy surface and without any damage/ depression or scars on the skin.

As hard as it may sound cold storage destroys the flavor producing enzyme in the tomato. So try and avoid refrigerating it and use fresh ones for cooking.
